To Turkey’s courts, it is a war crimes case. To Israel, it is a politically motivated action.
This week, an Istanbul court requested that Interpol assist in the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and dozens of other officials by seeking an Interpol “red notice.” The request is tied to a Turkish case involving Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud aid flotilla bound for Gaza in October 2025. Turkish prosecutors accuse the officials of genocide, crimes against humanity, and torture—allegations that Israel denies, calling them politically motivated.
However, a court’s request does not automatically result in an Interpol red notice. Interpol independently reviews such requests and has declined to act in cases it considers political. The latest ruling follows arrest warrants previously issued by Turkish authorities in November 2025.
