Qatar Airways is being sued after 16-year-old Jason Hu died from a severe allergic reaction during a flight from Doha to New York.

According to the lawsuit, Jason told a flight attendant about his life-threatening allergies to dairy, peanuts, and fish before accepting a sandwich.

The crew member allegedly assured him it was safe to eat.

Moments later, Jason suffered a severe anaphylactic reaction and collapsed.

The lawsuit also claims the aircraft’s emergency medical equipment, including an oxygen cylinder, failed to work properly during desperate attempts to save him.

Jason was pronounced dead after the flight landed at JFK, and his family says they had to remain on board for the rest of the flight with his body behind their seats.

The family is accusing Qatar Airways of negligence and is also suing MedAire, the company that provides in-flight medical support to many airlines.

They argue the airline’s actions — and alleged failures during the emergency — directly contributed to Jason’s death.

Qatar Airways has not yet responded to the lawsuit, and the allegations have not been proven in court.

This case is reigniting a hard question: when someone has life-threatening food allergies, how much responsibility lies with the airline, and how much with the passenger and family?
