An old Irish peat-fired power plant is about to become a giant battery.

It does not use lithium. It does not use cobalt. It uses the exact gas that usually causes the problem.

Google and Energy Dome are building a massive 200-megawatt-hour facility in County Offaly. When there is extra power on the grid, they use it to compress carbon dioxide into a liquid. When the grid needs power back, they simply let the gas expand through a turbine.

No rare earth mining required. No complex global supply chain bottlenecks. Just pure thermodynamics.

They have already secured the land and a 10-year grid contract, with plans to switch it on by 2028. It makes so much sense they are already building another one just like it in Arizona.
