It measures exactly two centimetres. It weighs 0.3 grams. The dual wings flap 500 times every single second. China’s National University of Defense Technology just demonstrated this micro-drone on state television. It was built for one specific purpose: reconnaissance in spaces where a traditional camera could never fit. Right now, it is a proof of concept. The flight time is short and the range is completely limited. But the mechanics work. The era of the mechanical insect is no longer science fiction.
