Dropped a $200 rod and reel on the public access ramp while hauling my families stuff out of the beach. Realized it, and when I came back it was gone. Few hours later, we’re back and low and behold just couple yards down the beach I see a family fishing with my rod. Approached them, too politely I guess explaining my situation. Despite it having all the familiar markings of my tackle and use they’re adamant it wasn’t mine. I chose not to escalate the situation in front of my family, and the kid packs the rod up after a single cast and disappears.
Like why would you lie tho?
Edit: y’all blowing this thing up has me laughing about a situation that was genuinely frustrating. So both sides, thank you. The insults are tremendous 😂
1: it fell off my cart between the public access and my condo.
2: only proof I have is the rod and reel combo is not a store setup. And the markings are a scuff mark on the barrel from how store it. It appeared they restrung the reel. This photo was approximately 12 hours after the loss.
3: It was probably harder to let this go than it would have been to escalate. I’ve done some dumb stuff in the past. I know when I’m likely to regret a situation.

I was given this by a work institution, but the left hand’s fingers if you look closely, and the weird doodles make me think it may be AI. I don’t feel great about posting this to our work’s socials.
