Syrian archaeologist Khaled Al-Asaad devoted his life to protecting the ancient city of Palmyra. After a month of torture, he refused to tell ISIS where priceless artifacts were hidden. They beheaded him in 2015. He is remembered as a hero who died protecting humanity’s shared history.
