They are called Frauenparkplätze. They are women-only parking bays placed deliberately right next to the exit doors. They get the brightest overhead lights. They sit directly under camera feeds. Several German states do not just suggest this. They demand it by law in new public garages. It is a subtle piece of urban design that engineers the risk out of the most vulnerable part of the journey.
