United just reported the biggest revenue quarter in its history.

The airline brought in a record $17.7 billion during the second quarter and even raised its profit forecast for the rest of 2026.

Premium cabins, business travel, cargo and loyalty revenue all climbed, while nearly 450 aircraft are already flying with Starlink Wi-Fi installed.

But here’s the surprise…

Delta generated almost the same revenue — yet still made significantly more profit.

United beat Delta on earnings per share, but Delta turned similar sales into about $1.4 billion in adjusted pre-tax profit, compared with roughly $843 million for United.

One of the biggest reasons?

Fuel.

United’s fuel bill reached $5.1 billion during the quarter, about $700 million more than Delta’s, eating into much of its record revenue.

So while United is growing fast and posting record sales, Delta is still squeezing more profit out of every dollar it earns.
