Many people thought the 737 MAX would never recover.

After two fatal crashes, a worldwide grounding, and years of scrutiny, Boeing’s most controversial jet has now become the best-selling aircraft in the company’s history.

The 737 MAX has officially reached 7,206 orders, overtaking the legendary 737 Next Generation (7,159 orders) to claim the top spot in Boeing’s record books.

Boeing is now ramping up production from 42 to 47 aircraft per month, with a goal of reaching 53 a month by early 2027 as airlines continue placing new orders.

But there’s still one big hurdle.

Airbus remains comfortably ahead.

The A320neo family has accumulated more than 12,100 orders, and the A321neo alone has been ordered more times than the entire 737 MAX family.

It’s a remarkable turnaround for an aircraft many believed would never regain the industry’s trust—but the battle between Boeing and Airbus is far from over.
