Pho for lunch, and now dinner; chicken pho in spicy beef broth.

Pho is my mom’s comfort meal, and it was needed today. She was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer, but she waited until today to tell me the final results of the biopsy. I understand, she needed to process.

They caught it early, so I’m really thankful for that, but we’re still waiting on the pathology appointment to find out how invasive it is. If it’s more than what’s currently visible, she’ll need more breast tissue removed than originally planned.

She’s scared. Honestly, so am I.
The doctor mentioned an 88% survival rate, and I know that’s supposed to be reassuring, but all my mom heard was that there was a chance she wouldn’t make it…

I’ve already been having a rough few months. I lost my job, totaled my car, went through a rough breakup…it just feels like I’ve been taking hit after hit.

But now I’m trying to put all of that to the side because my mom needs support; her body is changing and even with things being caught early, she has an invasive surgery that will impact how she looks and feels.

We spent today together, got pho, talked about everything and nothing, and tried to make the day feel as normal as possible. Now I’m home eating the leftovers and really processing.

In 1999, Waffle House waitress Tonda Lynn Dickerson was tipped a lottery ticket and won $10,000,000. She was then sued by her coworkers for a share, then sued by the man who gave her the ticket.
