Double smash burger

My bf and I are discussing finances after marriage and he said he wants to do 50/50, I am not quite sure how I feel about out this. I grew up in a traditional home where the man basically provided everything and my dad also helped with the house and kids. I am not expecting him to pay for everything but I also don’t know how to feel about having an obligation to provide especially since I’ll eventually have to deal with things like getting pregnant, giving birth, breastfeeding, postpartum, etc which he can’t even do if he wanted too which won’t be “fair” since that’s the word he’s using when we were discussing 50/50. I really love him and don’t want to lose him but I also don’t know how to feel about this. We decided to discuss this in a bit after he clocks out of work and I wanted to hear some insights before having this conversation.

Edit 2: we just talked about it, he said he wanted to combine finances till we are financially stable then he’ll carry the financial responsibility on his own especially if we decide to have kids in the far future.
