Something I'm very proud of is how little I consume. All my belongings fit in a 55L bag, most of it is thrifted and multi-use. Minimalism is fun for me, like a nice puzzle.
I recently posted in the anti-consumption subreddit about how I do a lot of really cool hikes all over the world, wearing the same outfit I would to a cafe: docs, jeans, and a crop top.
It's important to me because I believe that hiking should be accessible! All you need is your legs, no need to buy new clothes or expensive supplies. A lot of people don't think of hiking this way, and it can make them feel like they're not good enough or prepared enough to hike if they don't have the right stuff.
I got such a negative response! About how I was obviously doing something SO dangerous, I didn't know anything about hiking, I'm a bad low-consumerism for taking flights (which, btw, I don't own a car, and once I get to a region I do exclusively land travel — even if that means a 20hr bus ride). One person even said that I only wear crop tops on hikes for social media likes.
I'm so frustrated! I've been on so many crazy hikes, I included pictures, I obviously know what I'm doing! And they said things like they wouldn't wear jeans because of chafing or crop tops bc of but bites — obviously if that was a problem for me I wouldn't keep doing it??? I just only own crop tops lmao and the whole post was about not buying new things just for hiking!
Only one person was like, let's assume she knows how to hike if she's doing all this hiking?
The post even got removed, and I don't know why.
I'm just annoyed, that was something I was excited to share and I just got completely disregarded and everyone assumed I'm just stupid. I also wonder if I would have gotten that response if I were a man.
