I was feeling a bit crampy so my husband snuck out of bed early, and had coffee made by the time I made it downstairs. I worked on the house and processed some tea herbs. I got a lot of the laundry done. For lunch we had leftover bao and a simple kale salad. I made a run to the store in the heat of the day. Dang was it hot. I made chicken salad for dinner and brownies for dessert.
He got off work around 7 again. The food still needed to cool so we decided to go straight to the garden. I picked some kale, calendula, and strawberry leaves. I spotted another baby cantaloupe (that makes three). The watermelon vine is taking to the trellis well. We talked about getting some tiny bok choy variety for late summer planting.
We listened to Tom Waits newest album (Where the Willow and the Dogwood Grow) over dinner. It’s a an album of other artists covering his work produced by Waits. He got it for me as a surprise. I love Tom Waits and have a little cd collection.
It’s time for my night swim. I’ve lost a bit of weight recently thanks to having my illness medicated and stablized enough to workout and making a habit of swimming has been a big part of that. I think the cool water might also help me sleep somehow but I’m not sure the mechanism that would be responsible.
Later.
Food pictured: Chicken salad croissant with white cheddar and purple kale (from my garden) with honeydew melon.
