Leftover cookie cake and energy drink I guess.

I moved to a new city a few months ago for grad school completely alone, in an area I had never been to before. I was totally alone and extremely lonely for most of this year. I was in a sorority and every club I could fit into my schedule in undergrad. This was emotional shock for me. I had already spent a year working in a small town in the same situation. I became massively depressed on top of never having a moment to think with school, research, and work.

I constantly put myself out there, even made friends with a few bartenders bc I simply had no one else to talk to. But those friendships fizzled out quickly. I’m a social creature I thrive on interaction.

Then I joined a church and asked to be put in a bible study. (Specifically, they have a group matching program that I signed up for online). Lo and behold I find myself in a group of 10 women, all 22-23, in the same awkward in-between stage of life as me. And they are kind and interesting and progressive and intelligent. I struck gold. I’m hanging out with one on one with another girl for the first time in months later. I couldn’t be happier!!

I know in the loneliness epidemic it is so hard to make meaningful friendships, but you have to start somewhere. Whatever that means for you, be persistent, be bold, and wear ur heart on ur sleeve. Most young people are also lonely and craving community. It’s not weird to ask someone to hang out, we’re just out of practice. There is hope, you just have to hold on to it.

    Kk love u bye
