Today was supposed to be perfect. My bf and I have been going through some stress navigating life, family and work and I thought I’d surprise him with tickets to a movie and some sushi. We have both been craving sushi sooo bad.

After Backrooms, we made out way to our favorite sushi spot in LA and right off the bay, the vibe was off.

For starters there’s one waitress only, call outs. Then the entire bar section is full with four near drunk adults and two toddlers. One of the adults was their mom. Who was young. Could not have been older than 27 and she had 3 kids. The oldest kid was drawing at a table nowhere near his mom.

Because the place was busy the waitress had to get the moms attention to grab her son so we could be seated. The place was tense to say the least.

The drunk adults at the bar were rowdy asf which is already uncomfortable for the rest of the room the place isn’t that big.

The adults were two couples. One of the couples were the same race and the other couple was interracial. Their background really doesn’t matter but it’s important to understand the outcome later. It will make sense when I explain the why.

Anywho the The mom (interracial couple) had her back to her two toddlers and was probably unaware of her other son who was now drawing near the register.

She and her partner were buying drink for the other same race couple who were apparently getting married this month. Yay them. Dude dating the young mom (interracial couple) was paying for wvrything raising quite the tab. Saying that when they went to SD ( his hometown bc he kept repeating himself) they were all going to party it up. Young mom told him she needed a new bikini. Meanwhile her children were somewhat near her peripherals.

The waitress was clearly stressed trying to not only wait and serve the customers but also clean up after the three kids. BY HERSELF.

At first I thought the mom might be part owner bc she kept doing things like grabbing shot glasses, going to the back and hugging the sushi chef but clearly she was just very tipsy. Me and my bf kept watching the kids making sure their tiny bodies wouldn’t fall off the (higher than appropriate for their body size) stools. At one point the mom gave her two toddlers glass shot glasses. Which she poured their coke into for them to drink from. WTF

Well, inevitably the kids dropped them and broke two simultaneously while cheering themselves. Like the adults kept doing. One of them slipped off the fucking stool into the broken shards and attempted to help clean it up.

I immediately ran toward them and grabbed the glass away from his tiny hands and gave it to the sushi chef and side eyed the mom. She clumsily made her way over and said oh sorry guys, to me and my bf, “be careful bc they dropped the glass” and went to the back to grab the dust pan and broom to clean up their mess.

My bf could see that I was at this point extremely upset and uncomfortable and we got up towards the register to pay our tab.

Turns out (waitress told us the whole story) interracial couple was on a date. They met on hinge and she decided it would be a good idea to bring her kids on the date apparently so did the dude on the date. The kids were clearly not his and they resembled their moms race and not her date. They had been there with the three kiddos since 12 pm and mind you this took place an hour ago. We left the restaurant around 6:50 pm. They have been drinking the whole time and the owners were just letting it happy bc money right?

We left her a fat tip and encouraged her to stay I school as she shared with us she was in school making small chat upon our arrival and just told her to hang on and hopefully her shift was almost over.

I’m torn bc what the fuxking fuxk?! On so many levels. How will they get home?? Mom mentioned a hotel for them near by. Is date dude coming?? Where will the kiddos stay? I feel like I should have done something but last time I saw child neglect at a similar level I called the cops and got scolded for being a tattle tale. This seriously ruined my day and now I can’t stop thinking about the kiddos.

Dinner is delicious lemon roll. We also had a spicy tuna roll and a volcano roll not pictured.
