i went on a trip by myself to a foreign country. the other night i checked in late to my hotel (i was just staying 1 night in that city). i ended up returning to the front desk to ask a question about the lights in my room, so i ended up talking to this man for a total of like 3 minutes. as i’m going to bed, i get an alert that someone whose name i didn’t recognize requested to follow me on instagram but i just assumed it was a bot account.

when i woke up, i found a piece of paper that had been slipped under the door. the paper said:

“Dear Ms. (my first name),
I wish that you have enjoyed this night in our hotel.
I wanted to ask you yesterday if you are here for a trip or for work. But I couldn’t. I was shy, nervous. I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s my nature.
I leave my work at 8:30am and I will not see you more. If it doesn’t disturb you, I want to keep in touch to know each other more.
This is my facebook and instagram: (his information)
My name is (his name). I was glad to meet you.”

i never go on facebook but i got a notification that he messaged me. the message said:

“Hello (my first name). It is you who came to our hotel (hotel name) for one night?”

i honestly didn’t really think anything of the whole situation but then a few hours later while at the airport i was just like…..wait what? this feels beyond inappropriate. this man has my passport information. it’s one thing to leave the note, but then to find me online on multiple platforms seems CRAZY. it’s also not like we spent any time chatting. i don’t want to make a big deal out of something that isn’t a big deal but also like what the hell?

why do men??? like who gave them the audacity???

i am no longer in that country. picture is fried fish 🙂

UPDATE: i emailed the hotel and blocked his accounts. thank you ALL for your input, i am so sad to hear that it has happened to so many others.
