Vipan Kumar, a 47-year-old Indian migrant construction worker in Romania, became a national hero after risking his life to save a five-year-old girl. While walking in a Craiova park, he saw the child fall through a frozen lake's thin ice. Kumar rushed to help, plunging into the sub-zero water when the ice broke beneath him. He heroically held the girl above the surface for nearly 30 minutes until rescue teams arrived. In recognition of his bravery, the city awarded Kumar honorary citizenship, and a moved local community raised funds to send him home to visit his family.
