ABC News, NBC News, and CNN did not air President Donald Trump’s primetime address live on Thursday, during which he discussed election security and what he described as vulnerabilities in the 2020 election.
During the speech, Trump criticized ABC and NBC, saying, “They don’t like the topic because they know how corrupt our system is, and they don’t want to reveal it. They and others in the media are part of a plot. They want to continue this fraud for whatever reason. They want to keep it going. They want to protect the radical left.”
Although ABC and NBC made the speech available through their online streaming platforms, they did not broadcast it on their main television networks, with the exception of some Sinclair-owned local stations. CNN also chose not to carry the address live.
It is not unprecedented for major television networks to decline to air presidential primetime speeches. For example, ABC, CBS, and NBC did not broadcast President Barack Obama’s 2014 primetime address on immigration.
