I drove a few miles up a forest service road south of Bozeman, Montana, to eat my lunch today. I pulled into a spot in a beautiful meadow, with open grassy areas, tall Fir Trees and a creek meandering through. As I ate my turkey sandwich and a handful of strawberries, I let my eyes wander around the scene out my window. I noticed in my rearview mirror, that the hillside behind me was covered in moss and lichen and wondered if I might find Calypso Orchids back there. My hunch was correct! They were all over the place but this pair seemed to be the most photogenic. I loved the random leaf, not from the Orchid, that stood proudly in front of them!
